Colmar to Paris (15 Apr)

This morning is our first opportunity in our trip to 'lay down our root's' for an extended period of time - so as much as we will miss Colmar, we are happy to move on to Paris.

Our lovely airbnb host Barbara pops by at 9am to ensure we've left the place the way we found it and once we get the green light, we grab our suitcases and head off for the short 15min walk to Colmar train station.

Our fully booked train to Paris (via Strasbourg) leaves at 10:01am and we arrive with time to spare. We are able to find our no. 6 carriage easily and have our luggage stored and seats taken in record time. The 2hr 40min train trip was non eventful - we didn't even have the ticket inspector visit and request our tickets.

Upon leaving the train, we needed to buy a Navigo ticket to get us around Paris for 5 days. We found the relevant ticket machine and then realised it was 'out of order', so we entered the queue for the next available machine. After a prolonged wait we were able to purchase our tickets without too much fuss and head off to find our no. 4 train & then no. 12 train to our next airbnb.

We had a false start, jumping on the correct train but in the wrong direction!! What I didn't realise either was that Paris has minimal lifts or escalators so we had to carry our suitcases up and down several flights of stairs multiple times. Thankfully several people helped Sue out (her case is bigger & heavier than mine cos she's away for longer), but it was a great thigh and arm workout!!!

The site of our airbnb nearly caused a little tear in our eyes & we were very happy with the lovely, clean and recently renovated home. All we could think of was buying supplies for a home cooked meal and curling up into bed for a well earned break!!

Big day over.

Tomorrow is an easy day exploring Paris on the hop-on-hop-off bus.

Off to sleep we go 😴🛌
