Paris to England
Had a lovely 2.15am call from my niece this morning!! Despite the time, it is always fantastic speaking with her and getting an update on what's happening back home 💕.
Rose at 7.30am with a spring in my step as I'm looking forward to the next phase of our adventure - one of which includes a bucket list item, ride the Eurostar from France to England or vice versa!! Sue and I tottered off to breaky which was about 50m from our hotel and in the 'basement' of another hotel. We walked down a really old spiral staircase to merge at the bottom and see breakfast set up.
Ate my last French croissant with butter - which was as mouth watering as always, and a bit of a sad moment, but time to keep moving through our trip. The process to board the Eurostar was organised chaos and to sum up the experience basically involved spending time in endless queues moving slowly but surely to each checkpoint before boarding the train. This was our view of the station whilst waiting:
Finding our coach, storing our luggage and finding our seats was pretty painless and then we were pulling out of the Gare du Nord. To while away the time (2hrs 30mins) we played scrabble on the smallest (magnetic) scrabble board in existence - Sue whipped my butt twice before I was relieved of a 3rd loss due to us pulling into St Pancreas International. Here's the map showing our train about to enter the tunnel to the UK and our scrabble game:
Our airbnb is in Surrey which involved catching a train on the Victoria Line and then swapping over to the South Western Railway line and disembarking at Egham. All went swimmingly and we were in our airbnb a bit tired but very happy. Put on some washing and headed of to Waitrose to buy groceries for dinner.
Tomorrow I have the opportunity to rectify a 'navigational boo boo' I did 5yrs ago and finally go with Sue to see Windsor Castle.
Have no doubt I will be triple checking my instructions before we leave!!
